The focus of this itinerant district position is on psycho-educational assessments and collaborative consultation with school-based teams and classroom teachers.

Reporting to the District Principal – Inclusive Learning, the school psychologist is accountable for providing identification, assessment and planning services to students of school age (Kindergarten to Grade 12) when there are serious learning and/or behavioural difficulties.

The successful candidate will be qualified to administer and interpret up to, and including, Level C Educational, Psychological and Behavioural assessments. ÌýAs well, the psychologist will make recommendations to the District Principal regarding students’ eligibility for specific Ministry of Education categories.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in school psychology, or related field, with a focus on school psychology, including graduate training in measurement and individual psychological assessments
  • Demonstrated ability in consulting with teachers, parents, students and community agencies regarding the nature of students’ strengths and needs, the educational implications, and ways to enhance learning
  • Demonstrated ability in collaborating with school-based and/or district personnel to design or implement instructional strategies, and design or implement behavioural interventions
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education, Special Education Policies and Procedures
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and presenting in-service in the area of Special Education and, specifically, in the area of assessment
  • Current membership, in good standing, with the BC Association of School Psychologists or the College of Psychologists of BC

  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Education Department team and schools in planning and implementing school-based programs and initiatives that provide opportunity for Indigenous students to express and explore their cultural identity through art and music (visual art, dance, traditional drum, contemporary music, digital media, theatre and other)

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous histories and cultures, including the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples and other Island Nations
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies/Fine Arts fields or a combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience and/or training in Indigenous traditional art as well as contemporary music, art, or digital media

The range of services will include: developing stabilization and transition plans for students, providing short-term direct service and support to students, providing consultation to school staff in developing and implementing effective plans and interventions, and providing training and in-service to school and district staff as appropriate.

To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $208 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff which includes teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and exempt managerial staff.

The Assistant Manager of Building Maintenance is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and repair of the various buildings and building systems associated with District schools and administration facilities including, but not limited to, mechanical (plumbing and heating), electrical, life safety (fire alarms and sprinkler systems) and water distribution systems, along with building interior/exterior maintenance, carpentry, painting, and external lands/fields maintenance and associated site services. In addition, the Assistant Manager of Building Maintenance is responsible for the management of hazardous materials and their abatement and removal (asbestos, lead and mould).

The Assistant Manager of Building Maintenance implements and maintains the District’s maintenance and preventive maintenance schedules to ensure that all building systems and site services are operating effectively, efficiently and promote a healthy and safe educational environment, and are available when required to meet the educational requirements of the District.

Educational requirements are completion of Red Seal Building Trades Certification AND minimum three years of related experience, including the supervision and coordination of unionized employees including working with stakeholders in a leadership role and supplemented with courses, workshops and seminars in supervision and leadership. An equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the District will also be considered.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor degree in the field of Indigenous/First Nations Studies or equivalent combination of education and experience

Indigenous Arts and Culture Facilitator

The Indigenous Arts and Culture Facilitator will provide district leadership in the development and implementation of Indigenous arts and music programs and initiatives across the District (K-12).Ìý The goals of the program are to enhance appreciation and understanding among staff and students of the role of art and music in both traditional and contemporary Indigenous contexts, and to promote the exploration and expression of cultural identity among Indigenous students through the arts and music.Ìý This is a full-time temporary assignment to June 30, 2022 with a possible extension for the 2022-2023 school year.

Role Description and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the District Drum Program
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Education Department team and schools in planning and implementing school-based programs and initiatives that enhance staff and student appreciation of Indigenous Art and Music
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Education Department team and schools in planning and implementing school-based programs and initiatives that provide opportunity for Indigenous students to express and explore their cultural identity through art and music (visual art, dance, traditional drum, contemporary music, digital media, theatre and other)
  • Collaborate with local Nations, Indigenous organizations, schools and District staff to support events and celebrations that incorporate Indigenous art and music
  • ​Develop and support appropriate protocols associated with Indigenous art and music programs and initiatives

Reporting Structure

  • The Indigenous Arts and Culture Facilitator is accountable in the implementation of assigned duties to the District Administrator and District Principal of Indigenous Education.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous histories and cultures, including the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples and other Island Nations
  • A Bachelors degree in Indigenous Studies/Fine Arts fields or a combination of education, training and experience
  • ​Experience and/or training in Indigenous traditional art as well as contemporary music, art, or digital media
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of traditional and community protocols
  • ​Ability to build effective working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community, schools, and district staff
  • Experience working with Indigenous children and youth in the area of Indigenous art and music
  • Ability to develop and implement programs
  • Ability to speak or understand an Indigenous language is an asset

Preference will be given to candidates of Indigenous ancestry.

School Psychologist

The focus of the position is on psycho-educational assessments, collaborative consultation, and professional development. ÌýThis is an itinerant district position.

Reporting to the District Principal: Learning Support Team, the psychologist is accountable for providing identification, assessment and planning services to students of school age (Kindergarten to Grade 12) when there are serious learning and/or behavioural difficulties.

The successful candidate will be qualified to administer and interpret up to, and including, Level C Educational, Psychological and Behavioural assessments. ÌýAs well, the psychologist will make recommendations to the District Principal regarding students’ eligibility for specific Ministry of Education categories.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in school psychology, or related field, with a focus on school psychology, including graduate training in measurement and individual psychological assessments
  • Demonstrated ability in consulting with teachers, parents, students and community agencies regarding the nature of students’ strengths and needs, the educational implications, and ways to enhance learning
  • Demonstrated ability in collaborating with school-based and/or district personnel to design or implement instructional strategies, and design or implement behavioural interventions
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education, Special Education Policies and Procedures
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and presenting in-service in the area of Special Education and, specifically, in the area of assessment
  • Current membership, in good standing, with the BC Association of School Psychologists or the College of Psychologists of BC

Inclusion Outreach is a BC Ministry of Education Provincial Outreach Program that assists school teams and families to develop meaningful and functional educational programs for students with complex intellectual and physical disabilities within inclusive schools K-12.

The Program builds capacity in schools and districts by providing direct training and ongoing distance mentoring support to district partners, teachers, therapists, itinerants and educational assistants. The Speech-Language Pathologist works as a member of a collaborative transdisciplinary team to consult on a wide range of communication issues includingÌý augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs in the classroom and other environments, in-service training, and information sharing with families and other service providers. ÌýExperience with no tech, low tech and high tech communication systems is desired.

Job Description
The successful candidate will work with District staff (Indigenous Education Department, Mental Health Team), schools and community partners to identify vulnerable students who are not currently connected to schools consistently and may present as Children and Youth in Care, urban Indigenous and/or as a recent immigrant.Ìý The goal is that District Outreach Worker will work collaboratively with District staff to build a bridge to transition the student and family to a school community that is responsive to the needs of the children, youth and family.

The District Outreach Worker will meet with youth and their supporters in the community, identify barriers to successful connection to schools, and create wrap-around support plans with the goal of reconnecting to school programming.Ìý Once reconnection has been established the District Outreach Transition Support Worker will stay connected to District staff to ensure a successful transition back to school and to continue to ensure that the family and student continue to have access to the community supports needed. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain records and data to monitor and analyze progress.

This position will include evenings and weekends based on the individual needs to the youth and family involved.

This is a temporary position with a January 2021 start date and an end date of June 30 2021. As this is a pilot project for Greater Victoria School District, there is a possibility of future extension following a review of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience and understanding of the structural issues of society that impact urban Indigenous and/or recent immigrant youth and families in our communities
  • An understanding of the complexities and community systems supporting Children and Youth In Care
  • Working relationships with community partners, specifically Ministry of Child and Family Development, Intercultural Association and Indigenous serving agencies, in Victoria BC
  • Clear skills with culturally responsive conflict resolution practices, violent threat risk assessment, suicide assessment and problem solving
  • Strong understanding of trauma and mental health, and the impact on youth and families
  • Strength with collaborative, team approaches to support and planning
  • Develop outcome measurement tools to measure the effectiveness of program deliverables.


Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with youth and children
  • Prior understanding of community service opportunities in Greater Victoria area
  • Awareness of elementary, middle and secondary school systems
  • Preference may be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous
  • A class 5 driver’s license and meets District requirements for driving and working with children and youth
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends
